Product information "climbing guidebook Climbing in Manikia Evia - Greece"
The new star in the Greek climbing scene is Manikia. Now in its fourth edition, it features 10 new sectors, 25 new multi-pitch routes, and 185 new single-pitch routes—a massive expansion!
Manikia is a small village on the island of Evia / Euboea in central Greece. Manikia is about a 2-hour drive northeast of Athens and is best reached by car.
A few years ago, some Greek climbers discovered the area and established several climbing routes in the Vrisi area.
Very few people knew about this climbing area. And the years passed...
In 2015, a group of French climbers visited the area and recognized the unique quality and beauty of the rocks in the Manikia-Vrisi area and the wider Kimi region. They contacted the local authorities and, with the support of the municipality of Kimi-Aliveri, initiated all the necessary permit and licensing procedures with the relevant authorities. The story finally begins in October 2018, when the team of French climbers started work on the first routes. By the end of 2019, they had completed 350 routes, and there are set to be many more, as new routes are constantly being established.
The local community and the municipality of Kimi-Aliveri have supported this project. Residents throughout the Manikia-Vrisi-Kimi area have formed an association to support the project.
The climbing guide now features 51 multi-pitch routes and 760 single-pitch routes. The difficulty levels are mainly distributed across French grades 5, 6, and 7. However, there are also some routes in grades 3, 4, and 8.
The difficulty of the multi-pitch routes is almost exclusively in grade 6, and the routes range in length from 85 to 260 meters.
The climbing guide is streamlined to the essentials: QR codes for the respective parking lots, maps of the multi-pitch and single-pitch routes, overview photos of the sectors, color photo topos, the routes with details on difficulty, length, and name, as well as pictograms indicating approach time, sector orientation, and child-friendliness.
