Product information "climbing guidebook Patones"
This guide covers the sport climbing areas in the north-east of the province of Madrid and the north-west of Guadalajara. The most interesting area is the Lozoya limestone gorge, which rises from Pontón de la Oliva. The guide is supplemented by the small climbing areas of Los Alcores and Peñarrubia – near the village of Guadalix de la Sierra – as well as the village of Patones and the Barranco de las Cuevas gorge – also known as the Cañón de Uceda – which lie near Patones de Abajo.
Climbing here takes place on limestone or dolomite, which contrasts with the usual granite of the Sierra de Guadarrama.
Patones is located just around 70 km north of Madrid. It is therefore no surprise that it is the most popular climbing area among the capital’s residents.
This guide is the most up-to-date version and has been co-edited by local experts. A total of 967 routes are described, the majority of which are bolted single-pitch routes.
In addition to high-quality photo topos, access maps and QR codes for locations, the guide also provides information on various environmental restrictions that currently apply to many of these sectors.
The difficulty levels in Patones are almost exclusively in the 6th and 7th French grades, with a few exceptions, of course, both higher and lower. The routes are often graded harder. The average route length is 25m.
