Product information "climbing guidebook Rocca Pendice"
The Euganean Hills are a range of hills of volcanic origin rising a few kilometres south-west of Padua in the Paduan-Venetian Plain. The gentle slopes of the Euganean Hills are a scenic gem – idyllic landscapes and Italian way of life in historic villages where time seems to have stood still. Within this setting, there are four climbing areas, with routes predominantly graded 4–6 on the French scale.
Rocca Pendice, the dominant rock face, lies right at the heart of the Euganean Hills and has been the climbing wall of the people of Padua since 1909; they have rightly made it their landmark. It is a vertical wall rising approximately 150 metres above the surrounding landscape. Since the 1980s, sport climbing has developed across the entire rock face, proving very popular with the younger generation, including routes of high difficulty.
In recent years, thanks to the relentless enthusiasm of a number of young climbers, further new routes have been opened on the wall. In total, the current edition contains 400 single-pitch routes, 100 of which are newly developed, as well as 39 multi-pitch routes. The entire Rocca Pendice area is also excellently equipped and, thanks to the collaboration between the Regional Park and the CAI, ranks among the best in Italy in terms of quality. Further updates can also be found regarding the Pirio rock face and other smaller climbing areas.
The new edition of the guide is clearer and more modern in layout. All areas are described in detail in the introduction. The different sectors are described in a detailed manner using pictograms. It includes information on orientation, approach time, altitude/pitch length, suitability for children, as well as a list of the routes included, sorted by number and grade.
For each route, additional information is provided on grade, length, protection and fun factor. The topos are clearly marked with excellent colour photographs.
