The author of this bouldering guide started with the claim to gather all bouldering in Galicia in one work. However, according to his own statement, he failed because of the sheer amount of boulders in the extreme northwest of Spain. Thus, "only" a selection of 4 zones (subdivided into 13 areas) was included in the guide:The 4 zones: Ferrol, La Coruña, Costa da Morte and Lugo.In the end, a total of about 2000 problems made it into this extensive work. At the beginning of each area, all the necessary info is briefly summarized. How to get there with GPS coordinates, rock, number of boulders with information about the difficulty of the boulders, information about climate, food / drink supply and accommodation. For each area there is a simple, clear sketch. The areas are then again divided into sectors. For each sector there is a very detailed location sketch of the individual blocks. The individual boulders are drawn as red lines on color photographs and are very easy to read. In addition, there is info on grade, sit start, alignment, child friendliness, caution signs for height and bad jump/fall terrain. The areas in detail: Corme, Mens Lock, Traba, Monte Xalo, Prior, Eume, Lobadiz, Prioriño, Xistral, Vilalba, Parga, Barredo and Portomarín.335 pagesLanguage SpanishEdition 2012Alejandro López SánchesCampoIV

The history of climbing in Portugal begins in the late 1950s, but for a long time, despite the handsome number of routes, the country was not known as a climbing destination - only the (lucky) locals and a few visitors from home or abroad knew about the potential here. However, the routes were and are by no means of inferior quality to those in neighboring Spain or other European climbing areas, for example. On the contrary, given the quiet and beautiful location of the spots and the varied rock faces, little Portugal even proves to be a true climbing pearl. So there are enough arguments for a climbing trip to Portugal, be it for a short visit, a longer stay or a climbing trip through the whole countryThe 14 main areas described in the book are as follows: Meadinha, Santo Tirso, Serra de Passos, Serra da Estrela, Penha Garcia, Serra do Sico, Reguengo do Fetal, Cabo Carvoeiro, Montejunto, Sintra, Arrabida, Escusa, Rocha da Pena, and Sagres.Thousands of routes and boulder problems are described in this guidebook. All the routes are shown on colour topos, and all the bouldering problems are shown on boulder maps. At the start of each crag there is a description of the style and character of the climbing to be found, approach map, access information, and QR codes for the parking areas.

The second edition of the guidebook that brought to light a compilation of most of the up to now “hidden” Portuguese rock climbing potential; a big update of what has been written and further developed in the last ten years. From the western tip of Europe comes an extensive list of climbs to be enjoyed along 832km of beautiful Atlantic coastline and 200km of inland, charming landscapes. With a history of climbing developments which dates back to the late 50’s, Portugal’s hundreds of lines have been kept out of the spotlight – mostly enjoyed by the lucky locals and the occasional visitor – but are by no means of less quality than neighbouring Spain or other continental venues. Instead, these varied, quiet and isolated, considering the small territory and peripheral situation, are a true gem. More than enough arguments for a climbing trip, regardless if you’re flying for a brief visit, longer stay or road journey. From infinite granite chaos, domes and walls in the north, to central limestone crags, random basalt splitters, quartzite, the renowned Sintra’s bouldering, coastal routes around the capital and down south... there is space for everyone, whether you are seeking remote trad adventures, boulders, deep water soloing or hard sport sends. Complemented with culture, gastronomy, ease of travelling, other water sports or – for the more fanatic – on its own, Portugal is with no doubt one of the ultimate European climbing destinations.
