Located north of the Giant Mountains in southern Poland, it is one of many stunning low mountain ranges. The Jannowitzer Ore Mountains feature numerous boulders and climbing cliffs set amid unspoiled nature. One of the most famous climbing destinations here is the rock bridge, Skalny Most.
Although the guide is in Polish, it’s easy to follow even without knowing the language. The symbols and pictograms used are self-explanatory. Excellent site maps of the cliffs, good maps showing the trail networks, and GPS data ensure you’ll never miss your destination. The difficulty scales used are Polish. All topos are set against beautiful color photos.

One such guide is the topo “SUDETY ZACHODNIE. Rocks around Jelenia Góra, Wojcieszów, Złotoryja and Lviv Śląski” by Michał Kajca. The author spent a whole 10 years (!) collecting, researching, interviewing and verifying information and photographic material. The result is a 368-page guidebook that describes 33 climbing areas with 1057 (including 595 sport climbing routes) climbing routes and variations. Furthermore, the variety of formations and types of climbing is impressive. Suffice it to say that the routes are in no less than 8 different types of rock: sandstone, crystalline limestone, basalt, rhyolite, metatrachite, granite, granite gneiss and diabase. There are some easy routes, including those suitable for children (marked with a pink symbol), but there are also a number of difficult climbs and even some extreme climbs. For trad climbers, there is a really impressive list of objectives here. There are also 26 interesting traverses described. In addition to the detailed topographical section (clear lines in photos, maps, approach descriptions and GPS coordinates) and the almost 150 climbing photos, the author always places importance on the history of climbing in the areas he describes.
