Legendary Siurana
David Brascó and Natàlia Campillo have produced a really great book for a distinctly legendary and fascinating climbing area. The guide scores points in its format, its trilingualism, its very good topos, and its short and concise information on access, walking times, protection, route length and route density (difficulty) for each sector, the orientation of each wall, and of course with its site plans.
Part of the profit of this guide is allocated to equipment, re-bolting and maintenance work. Our recommendation is therefore always to buy the local climbing guidebook if possible ...

The Catalan province of Tarragona in eastern Spain is a dream region from the climber's point of view. Nestled in the spectacular landscape of the Sierra de Prades, it is home to a large number of climbing areas (relatively close together) that are as beautiful as they are resonant - first and foremost, of course, Siurana. Composed mostly of limestone and conglomerate, these crags offer some of the best sport climbing in Catalonia. Also included in the guide: Margalef, Montsant, La Riba, Els Cogullons, El Penitent, Mont-ral, La Mussara, Vilanova de Prades, Arbolí and Masriudoms. Even if it is a selection guide - that is, the individual areas are only presented in extracts - this 3rd edition of the climbing guide with now more than 4800 routes, distributed over 11 areas, has turned out quite comprehensive. Who wants to put his focus on only one of the included areas, is certainly better served with a local guide. Each area is described in detail in the introduction (e.g. type of climbing to be found, best season). Detailed access descriptions and sketches for the individual sectors as well as panoramic photos and GPS coordinates for all major parking facilities leave no question unanswered in terms of orientation. All further information is provided in pictogram form - here you will find information on orientation, access times, difficulty range of the existing paths, wall inclination/climbing style. The topos are laid out as colored lines over very good color photographs and are very legible throughout. The individual routes are then characterized again by name, length and grade (French scale). The climbing guide is written in three languages throughout - including English.Overall, a very well done climbing guide, which in presentation and clarity strongly reminiscent of the proven Rockfax guides.512 pagesLanguage Spanish / Catalan / English3. edition 2023P.
