The Jura has been the scene of several important ascents in climbing history. For example, in 1986, when Antoine Le Menestrel opened "Ravage" (8b+/c) on the Chuenisberg near Basel, the most difficult route in the world at the time. Seven years later, Fred Nicole followed suit with "Bain de sang" (9a) in St-Loup. After the initial euphoria, it became quieter around the walls of the Jura. The scene of top climbers shifted. What remained were the beautiful rocks and fabulous forests.
