The book describes over 100 climbing areas in the Pellice, Chisone and Germanasca valleys, in the foothills with Rocca Sbarua, Monte Tre Denti, the cliffs of the Cumianese area and last but not least in Val Sangone. Climbing and mountaineering have always been present in these valleys, and important sites such as Rocca Sbarua bear witness to a leading activity since the beginning of the 20th century. Important names such as Boccalatte, Gervasutti, Rivero, Rossa, Motti, Grassi and others have left their mark, leaving us the most beautiful classic routes that are now historic. The evolution of mountaineering towards an activity that focuses much more on rock climbing and does not have the goal of reaching the summit was the starting point for Andrea Mellano and his group of friends to develop the idea of organizing the first sport climbing competitions with “Sportroccia '85”.
From there, the rock faces multiply, but there are people like Fiorenzo Michelin, co-author of the previous edition, who have opened up an incredible number of routes in these valleys. As a result, the Bourcet has become the biggest attraction in the Chisone Valley and offers the opportunity for economic and tourist growth in the region.
The landscape changes radically: in the lower valleys, the walls are mainly covered with chestnut and beech forests. As the altitude increases, coniferous forests and pastures give way, and in the higher valleys you reach the classic alpine landscape with numerous lakes and views from which you can always catch a glimpse of the Monviso.
This third edition of “Passaggio a Nord Ovest”, divided into two volumes, expanded and updated, shows how many opportunities these valleys offer to spend a beautiful day on walls and routes for all tastes.
