Right in the heart of it, not on the outskirts. The Vercors is truly impressive—especially with its many fantastic climbing areas. There are plenty of them, particularly on its southern foothills. But there are also plenty right in the heart of the Vercors. The center and starting point of this climbing trip is Pont-en-Royans. Along the wonderful Bournes Gorge, the Vernaison, up to the Plateaux du Vercors, and into the Vallée de la Lyonne—a total of 38 climbing areas in prime, peaceful locations! The climbing guide provides comprehensive descriptions of all climbing areas and routes in this charming landscape. In addition to outstanding color photos, site maps, and detailed area descriptions, the guidebook features six different pictograms that adequately summarize each area. These include: the orientation of the wall or rock face, climbing height and length, the best time of year, how to get there, the approach, and the number of hours of sunshine on the rock face. For each individual route, you’ll find brief descriptions, the difficulty level, the year it was established, and the first ascender. The route diagrams themselves are color-coded according to difficulty. This means that simply glancing at the topos immediately gives you a visual overview of whether you’re in the right sector.Highly recommended for relaxed, peaceful climbing!512 pageslanguages frenchedition 2026R. Chamrousse is located in the Département Isère in the Auvergne-Rhône-Alpes region. The village stretches from approx. 1400 m to approx. 2400 m and is located around 10 km east of Grenoble. This makes it predestined for bouldering and climbing in high summer. The surrounding area offers bouldering, single pitches and multi-pitch routes in a wonderful alpine setting. The topo guide follows suit and covers all 3 types of climbing, ranging in difficulty from very easy to moderate. Site plans and topos are very good. The other essentials are then available in more detail or as a brief overview, but always in French. There is always GPS data for the long routes.
